On Sunday, August 16, 2026, the Department of Economics under the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at American International University-Bangladesh organized a lively and memorable Freshmen Reception and Farewell Program. The event was held at the Media Studio, bringing together newly admitted students, faculty members, department representatives, and members of the AIUB Economics Club in a shared celebration of new beginnings and cherished memories. The program was designed to warmly welcome the freshmen, foster connections, introduce them to the values and culture of the department, and bid farewell to the former executive members of the AIUB Economics Club.

Dr. Farhana Rafiq, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics and Mentor of the AIUB Economics Club, delivered her remarks, highlighting the importance of club activities and extracurricular engagement in complementing students’ academic experiences. She encouraged the freshmen to actively participate in the Economics Club and take advantage of opportunities to develop their communication, leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.

Dr. Faria Sultana, Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), and Head of the Department of Economics, then addressed the audience and warmly welcomed the freshmen. She highlighted the importance of active participation, personal development, dedication, and integrity in shaping a successful university experience, encouraging students to make meaningful use of both academic and co-curricular opportunities.

Enhancing the significance of the event, Prof. Dr. Tazul Islam, Dean of FASS, shared his insights on the transformative power of education and the importance of Economics in today’s world. He encouraged students to remain resilient, curious, and committed to lifelong learning, while emphasizing ethical leadership and responsible decision-making.

Following his remarks, Prof. Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice Chancellor of American International University-Bangladesh, graced the occasion with his presence and shared his valuable wisdom with the students. In his address, he emphasized the importance of education, personal growth, discipline, and perseverance in building a successful future. He encouraged the freshmen to make the most of their university experience, remain committed to learning, and develop themselves as responsible and capable individuals.

The program also included a farewell segment for the former executive members of the AIUB Economics Club, recognizing their valuable contributions, dedication, and efforts toward strengthening the club and enriching student life within the Department of Economics. The outgoing executives were appreciated for their leadership and service as they concluded their tenure and passed the spirit of leadership and responsibility on to the next generation of students.

The event concluded on a festive note with a vibrant cultural program organized by the AIUB Economics Club. The segment showcased the creativity, enthusiasm, and diverse talents of the students through various performances. The combination of a warm welcome for the freshmen, appreciation for the outgoing club executives, inspiring addresses, and cultural celebrations created a meaningful and memorable occasion for the Department of Economics, celebrating new beginnings, student leadership, and the lasting memories created through university life.
